Wheat...The sharp retreat across the futures complex was apparent in
the west coast cash wheat markets on Tuesday, with prices posted 20 to
30 cents lower than a week ago. White wheat basis did strengthen about a
dime from late last week and is back near even-money to Chicago July.
Shipments...Weekly export inspections showed a modest uptick in U.S.
wheat shipments last week, coming in at nearly 16 million bushels to put
the year-to-date total at 819 million and 12% ahead of a year ago. Hard
red winter was the top mover with 6.9 million bushels, followed by hard
red spring with 3.3 million and soft white with 2.6 million. West coast
exporters shipped 7.3 million bushels of wheat, mostly for the account
of Indonesia, along with 28 million bushels of corn.
Crop Progress...Pacific Northwest winter wheat conditions registered
some modest declines over the past week, with the 3-state index slipping
3 points to 104% of average, mainly due to a drop in Washington. Good to
excellent ratings for Idaho held at 87%, Oregon also held at 58%, while
Washington dropped 8 points to 84%. Spring wheat plantings advanced to
84% complete for Idaho and 86% for Washington.
