Wheat...West coast cash wheat prices held higher ground in early-week
trade, reflecting the recent surge across the futures complex. Basis for
white wheat remained defensive against Chicago, slipping to more than 20
cents under the September contract, with carries widening into January
delivery slots.
Crop Progress...Winter wheat harvest continued under good conditions
over the past week, with over 70% of the white wheat crop harvested and
slightly ahead of average. Above average yields are being reported and
protein levels and falling numbers have improved as harvest progresses.
Oregon is virtually complete, Idaho reports 75% cut and Washington at
81% complete.
Shipments...Weekly export inspections showed a marked uptick in U.S.
wheat movement over the past week, coming in at 18.1 million bushels.
Year-to-date loadings of 143 million bushels set 19% behind a year ago.
Hard red spring was the top shipper with 5.8 million bushels, followed
by hard red winter with 5.4 million and white wheat with 2.4 million.
West coast exporters shipped 11 million bushels of wheat, going mostly
to Japan, along with 16.5 million bushels of corn.
